2015 Season Preview

 

Even though there is still snow on the ground, American Legion Baseball is not far away.

On the National scale, the American Legion World Series will be broadcasting two semifinal games in addition to the Championship game.

Closer to home, District 5 boasts the most teams in the State with 29 (14 senior teams and 15 junior teams).  The District 5 Senior league format will remain the same with two divisions, with slightly fewer regular season league games than last season.  See below for more details.

The Senior American Legion District 5 Baseball League will be comprised of the following teams:

Arthur S Moran Post 66 / Sylvan Beach Post 1153 (Camden/Sylvan Beach)

Charles H Adrean DSC Post 625 (Utica)

Charles J Love Post 406 (Boonville)

Helmuth-Ingalls Post 232 (Clinton)

Henry P Smith Post 24 (Rome)

Ilion Memorial Post 920 (Ilion)

Lee Post 1794 (Town of Lee)

Morris Edwards Post 168 (St. Johnsville)

New Hartford Post 1376 (New Hartford)

Oneida Post 169 (Oneida)

Oriskany Post 1448 (Oriskany)

Sherrill Post 230 (Sherrill)

Utica Post 229 (Utica)

Whitestown Post 1113 (Whitesboro)

 

The league will be split into 2 divisions, Navy and Air Force.  Each team will play teams within their division twice and teams within the other division once, for a total of 19 league regular season games. The top 4 teams in each division will advance to an 8 team double elimination tournament to determine the District 5 Champion.  The tournament will be held July 19 & 20 at the higher seeds home field and then July 21-23 at Murnane Field.  The winner will advance to the NYS Championship Tournament at Murnane Field, July 28 - August 1.

The Junior American Legion District 5 Baseball League will be comprised of the following teams:

Edward L Clonan Post 1000 / Wicks-Staley Post 231 (Sauquoit/Clayville)

Helmuth-Ingalls Post 232 (Clinton)

Ilion Memorial Post 920 (Ilion)

Johnson-Rogers Post 1492 (Brookfield)

Leon R Roberts Post 161 (Holland Patent)

Morris Edwards Post 168 (St. Johnsville)

New Hartford Post 1376 (New Hartford)

Oneida Post 169 (Oneida)

Oriskany Post 1448 (Oriskany)

Utica Post 229 (Utica)

The league will be split into 3 divisions, Army, Marines and Coast Guard.  Each team will play teams within their division twice and teams within the other division once, for a total of 18 league regular season games. The division winners along with 3 wild card teams will advance to a 6 team double elimination tournament to determine the District 5 Champion.  The tournament will be held July 19-25 at BYAA in Boonville.  The winner will advance to the NYS Championship Tournament at Delutis Field, July 30 - August 1.
